The Central Green Team is a group of Central members working to help Central and its members become better stewards of God's creation, to make our practices more ecologically sustainable, to educate the congregation on environmental issues, to take action on environmental issues, and otherwise to encourage environmental action among members and the church as a whole. We also sponsor opportunities for members and friends to enjoy, and learn about, the natural world.

One of the first Protestant congregations in Michigan, Central is a Reconciling Congregation that welcomes all people regardless of socio-economic status, race, gender identification or sexuality. We have been working for peace with justice in three centuries. We were organized in 1810, incorporated in 1822, and completed the current sanctuary in 1867. We envision Central United Methodist Church as a vital, diverse, River of Life nurtured by the light of Christ, rooted deeply in and living the scripture, a holy presence in the center of the City of Detroit, transforming individuals, institutions, and the world, advocating peace and justice in all we do.
